Honoured for voluntary work – October 2008

Bill and Nobie being presented with the Bethlehem passportWensley Roofing’s contracts director Bill Shearing and his wife Zenobia (known as Nobie) have been awarded a rare and prestigious honour for their voluntary work.  They are the first ‘normal’ people to be presented with the Bethlehem Passport.  Other passport holders include the Pope and the Archbishop of Canterbury.

The Bethlehem Passport was presented to Bill and Nobie by Leila Sansour, founder of the Open Bethlehem foundation, at a ceremony including church and civic leaders from Sunderland at St Aidan’s church in Grangetown on 25 October 2008.

The honour is in recognition of their work supporting various projects in the troubled city.  They have visited Bethlehem 18 times over the last 12 years and have worked tirelessly to promote the city by holding talks all over the North East which have raised thousands of pounds for projects in Bethlehem.  They also take groups of people from all over the country to tour Bethlehem and the surrounding Holy Land.
